It appears that postmodern-multiculturalism and “political correctness” have replaced the evidently outdated, constitutional notion of “free speech” in America! It seems that only those who worship and adhere to the religious views (culturally, philosophically and scientifically) of the agnostic/atheistic and powerful few, have the right to speak out whenever and wherever they please. The many, who may think, believe and act differently than these few and powerful, are slowly but surely loosing their right to communicate or maybe even exist.

Here is just one example, from the Colorado Springs Gazette, of this despotic type of free speech restriction by the Godless and powerful few:

A former Lewis-Palmer High School student is pressing on with what she sees as a fight for free speech, after she was disciplined by her alma mater for encouraging others to get to know “Jesus Christ” during her graduation speech.

Erica Corder filed an appeal on Thursday with the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver after a Denver district court judge dismissed her suit against Lewis-Palmer School District 38 in July. The court has not yet accepted the appeal.

The brief was filed by Liberty Counsel, a legal advocacy group dedicated to defending “religious freedom, the sanctity of human life and the traditional family,” according to its Web site.

The dispute began at Corder’s 2006 graduation when she stood before the school and said, in part, “…his name is Jesus Christ. If you don’t already know him personally I encourage you to find out more about the sacrifice he made for you so that you now have the opportunity to live in eternity with him.”

Those words came as a surprise to then-principal Mark Brewer, because Corder had delivered a different speech to him for his approval before the graduation ceremony. After the ceremony, Corder was told she would not receive her diploma unless she apologized to the school community, said the lawsuit.

This young lady suffered religious persecution, simply because she wanted to share her belief with others. In this country and system, we have rights, but God sees this differently than we do.

Contrary to the founding father’s proclamations of “inalienable rights” from God (beyond life, of course), there are no biblical scriptures which profess or demand our political right to “pursue freedom, happiness” or “free speech.”

Is there a concerted effort in this country, as well as throughout the rest of the world, to do away with God and religion? Yes, there is, and this Gazette article is proof, but the bible warned us that these days would come and what we should expect.

What happened to this young lady angers me, and I won’t deny that, but I can’t ignore my beliefs while chasing after some man-made document that is, as I write, slowly fading away. Only the truth of God is constant and everlasting, while every supposed truth of man is temporal, faulty and ineffective!

  1. Thankfully, when I gave my graduation speech in the early 90’s this type of thing was not as prevalent as it is today. I thanked God in my speech. I lived in the sticks, so perhaps (I hope) things are still a bit different here.

I think you’re right in both ways: things have progressed, for the worse, in the last twenty years, and I think this kind of despotism and bigotry is more prevalent in larger communities.
